Halloween

As Halloween is approaching we thought we would share our Skulls & Roses cake to get everyone in the Halloween spirit.

The skulls were modelled out of fondant mixed with Tylose powder to ensure that they set rock hard and held their shape. They were then dusted with some black petal dust to give them the extra dimension and definition.

The roses and leaves were also made from fondant mixed with Tylose. We prefer using fondant and Tylose for sugar flowers however you can also use flower modelling paste. It really depends on what you find works best for you.

The web pattern was hand piped using royal icing. You can either make royal icing from egg whites and pure icing sugar, or you can use a pre made mix that you add water to.

We used several of our products to create this cake including;

Eye Spy with My Little Eye......Cake Pops!!!!

We had a little bit of fun last week creating some Cake Pops using our new coloured edible icing eyes.

Lydia was in charge of bringing a sweet to a Greys Anatomy fancy dress trivia night, so she decided to bring something a little different. It was only fitting that she make Eyeball Cake Pops to tie in with the surgical theme.

I am sure you would agree that they really looked effective and the assorted coloured icing eyes added a fun element to each Cake Pop:)

Not only did they look great but they tasted amazing too. They were chocolate and coconut and I have to confess I may have had a couple too many to eat.

In order to create these cake pops we used a range of our great cake pop products including;

Clikstix in Action

We created the details on this cake by using a few of our Clikstix tools and wanted to share the results.
We would have to say that our decorating time was halved by using the Clikstix, especially when creating the cherry blossoms. We were able to cut approx. 15- 20 cherry blossoms at one time instead of individually cutting each one.

In order to get the added dimension to the Blossoms we used a petal pad and a balling tool.  We placed the blossoms on the petal pad once they had been ejected from the Clikstix. Then used the balling tool to gently press in the centre of the blossoms to pop up the sides.  It helps if you add some Tylose powder to your fondant before using so that the Blossoms will set and hold their shape.
The Bithday message was created using the Script Font and again they were so easy to use. The back ejector really allows the letters to be released without difficulty. The key to using the Script Clikstix is to make sure that your fondant is a thin as possible and you leave the fondant to dry a little before cutting the letters.

We highly reccommend the Clikstix and are happy to answer any questions about this great product:)

Happy Decorating,
Aimee & Lydia

This board is 31.5cm x 49.5cm and has plenty of room to make all your sugar craft and flowers.

The design is the same as the smaller version complete with the wire grooves on the reverse side for modelling sugar flowers. It also still has a non slip matt included to prevent the board from moving when using it.
